The Origins of the Vuvuzela

The Vuvzela has recently been the focus of international discussion; it has become the accessory of the 2010 World Cup football tournament in South Africa. But the origin of the loud, lengthy horn is a topic of controversy. Its origin is commonly disputed as it is difficult to determine a point at which the horn was introduced but there are several parties that claim its invention.

The world Vuvuzela is itself disputed as some claim it comes from a Zulu word meaning 'to make noise' while others argue that it comes from a township slang phrase meaning 'shower'. It is unknown whether this origin regards showering people with noise or perhaps using part of a shower as an instrument.

There is some who believe the instrument is a variation of the Kudu horn used in battle and worship by various African tribes. If true, the instrument would date back hundreds or even thousands of years deeply rooted in African culture but so far it is not considered credible as there is no evidence.

Another claim comes from the Nazareth Baptist Church of South African who claims they invented the instrument and it has been used in their worship as a sacred instrument since the turn of the 20th century. Their claim has been disputed as although the horn has been actively used and recognised in South African football for several decades, they only raised the issue early in 2010. They argue that as a sacred instrument used in worship, it should not be allowed to be used in sporting events with no religious relevance. Leaders of the church have threatened legal action against the heads of FIFA to stop fans playing the instrument during matches.

South African football fan Freddie Maake claims to have invented the instrument in 1965 when adapting a bicycle horn, he later crafted a longer version from aluminium which he took to many local games and international events. Maake has pictures of himself dating back to the 1970s to support his claim and he even took it to the 1998 world cup in France. There is no doubt he was using a vuvuzela horn as far back as 1970 but still no hard evidence to support the claim that he invented it. The exact same horn was recorded being used in the 1978 world cup in Argentina, a country Maake had never visited but the instruments directly resemble that of his 1965 aluminium creation.

Ex -professional football player Neil van Schalkwyk saw an opportunity to make money when his company, Masincedane Sports, patented the design of a plastic version of the horn to market to local football fans but he had no idea it would be as popular as it has been. So far, Masincedane Sports has sold over 600,000 vuvuzelas, 100,000 of which were in the first week of the 2010 World Cup.

The infamous loud drone produced by the horn has proved unpopular with many visiting football fans in South Africa and even more watching on television around the world. FIFA officials are yet to enforce any rules on the use of the instrument but FIFA CEO Dr Danny Jordaan stated that "2010 will be the loudest world cup ever; South Africa hopes that the Vuvuzela will be recognised as a unique part of what will be a very special African world cup celebration." Time will tell if the instruments will be used in other countries but international sales of the vuvuzela are in the millions, with only a handful of clubs and stadiums proposing to ban them at future events.

Wearer of the renowned Adidas Adizero Lionel Messi has stated he loves the atmosphere the Vuvuzela creates and would love to see it transfer to club football. Could we end up seeing crowds of fans in Manchester United Football Shirts making the noise next season?

Why UEFA Decided Some Euro 2012 Qualifying Fixtures

When the draw was made for the Euro 2012 championships, there was great excitement amongst the fans. Their thoughts turned to the new destinations they would visit following their team in their quest to make the finals which will be hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine.

However, travel plans can't be made until the dates of the qualifying matches were decided. In the first instance, it was left to the teams in the 9 groups to hold a meeting to try to agree fixtures. The countries are free to chose the fixture dates from a list of international dates between September 2010 and October 2011.

Within weeks of the Euro 2012 Qualifying draw being made, meetings were being held all round Europe and in five of the nine groups, fixtures were agreed which meant supporters could start making their travel plans. For the countries of the four remaining groups, the fixtures were decided by UEFA. Among the teams who didn't agree fixtures were both England and Republic of Ireland who enjoy huge travelling support. This meant the loyal supporters had to wait a little longer to make their travel plans.

The countries from the four unresolved groups headed to Tel Aviv to await their fate at the hands of UEFA. The procedure was pretty straight forward. UEFA have a standard fixture list with fixtures such as A v B on a specific dates. All that was left to do was to draw the teams from each group into a letter thus giving the set of fixtures for the remaining four Euro 2012 Qualifying groups. Supporters could start planning their trips at last.

Cape Town Waterfront Offers Great Viewing of the 2010 Soccer World Cup

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is one of the most popular attractions of Cape Town. With scarcely 4 weeks before the start of the 2010 World Cup, the CEO of the V&A Waterfront, Mr. David Green, said in a press release that the Waterfront was prepared in al respects for the expected influx of visitors for the FIFA 2010 World Cup 2010 tournament to be held from June till July, with about 100,000 visitors per day expected at the Waterfront. With so many visitors expected, Green said that security and infrastructure measures have been improved in the build up to the World Cup. "On match days there will be a 50% increase in security and non-match days there will be a 25% security increase above what we currently have. 60 Waterfront ambassadors have been recruited to be available for tourists throughout the 300 acre campus. "We will be open as usual from 9am to 9pm, although food and beverage outlets can trade till 2am and in some cases we have increased the hours to 4am," he explained.

Green said there were two safe, yet scenic, routes which visitors can use to walk to the Waterfront; accessed at the Clock Tower and at the West Quay past Cape Grace and Bascule Bridge. However, in line with FIFA regulations, certain access routes around the stadium will be closed on match days and fans and visitors to the stadium and the V&A Waterfront are strongly encouraged to make use of public transport and Park-and-Ride options.

Spectator Zones: To enhance the World Cup experience for the anticipated 350,000 visitors to Cape Town during the football tournament, the V&A Waterfront has organised four prime-site Spectator Zones:

· Quay 4, diagonally opposite the Amphitheatre, will seat 400 spectators and will be open from 10am till 1am. Entrance is free and TV screens will be in place to view matches.
· The MTN Spectator Zone at Clock Tower Square offers free admission and also has a capacity of 400; it opens at 11am; all the games will be aired on flat screen TV's
· The Hyundai Spectator Zone will be situated opposite the Caltex Service Station and has a capacity of 2,000 with a cost of R100 per person. The game will be viewed on 1 large screen.
· The V&A Waterfront Lookout Point is situated above the Breakwater Parking Garage also with a capacity of 2000 with a cost of R150 pp. This venue will feature two activities specifically for the USA and UK supporters, entitled "Eagle's Nest" and "Lion's Den."

Wheel of Excellence: Another exciting attraction arriving at the end of May will be the Wheel of Excellence, a Waterfront exclusive for the World Cup. This will be fully illuminated giant observation wheel 50 metres in height, and featuring 36 fully enclosed luxury cabins that will treat visitors to a unique sightseeing opportunity; with spectacular views of the City as well as Table Mountain and Robben Island. It will be situated at the Canal site, opposite the Caltex Garage. The wheel will be fully operational from June 8 and will remain at the V&A Waterfront for an extended period after the World Cup matches. Ticket price to the Wheel of Excellence is R70 per person.

Safety and security: The Waterfront's CEO provided details of improvements in safety and security, cleaning, lighting, access routes and parking facilities, following comparative risk assessments based on valuable lessons learnt at the World Cup in Germany. "We have increased our security presence by 50% on match days and 25% on non-match days, to ensure we are covered to handle any unexpected eventualities. This includes employing additional full-time security personnel during the World Cup. All additional security personnel have worked with the area during the test match period, so are familiar with the site and proceedings. In addition, we have reviewed and updated the positioning of our 1000-plus CCTV cameras in all common areas" he said.

The new Information Centre (alongside Ferryman's Tavern on Dock Road) has been upgraded at a cost of R5,5 million, and aims to be the first stop to welcome local and international visitors to the V&A Waterfront. In addition to general tourist information, services include reservations for accommodation in Cape Town and tour bookings in and around the V&A Waterfront and surrounds.

Visitors should be exited at these developments aimed at enhancing their enjoyment of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, and offering an opportunity to mix with the local people.

The Homeless World Cup!

It all started in 2001 at the International Network of Street Papers Conference, held in Cape Town, South Africa. While looking for an international language that could unite homeless people across the world, Mel Young, cofounder of The Big Issue Scotland, and Harald Schmied, editor of the Austrian street paper, Megaphon, were struck by the unifying strength of the game of soccer. They were looking for something that created a bond, a universal language spoken by all, and couldn't find a better fit than soccer! And so, the Homeless World Cup was born. Mel and Harald made it happen in 18 months!

The first Homeless World Cup tournament took place in Graz, Austria, and was a phenomenal success. Not only did it have the kind of impact on the players that Mel and Harald had hoped for, it created a strong sense of unity and joy they'd never seen before. According to the Homeless World Cup rules, the players can either be male or female, but they need to be at least 16 years old at the time of the tournament. They should've been homeless at some point after last year's World Cup or made a living as street paper vendors or are asylum seekers, with neither positive asylum status nor work permit.

The year 2008 saw the Homeless World Cup tournament being played in Melbourne, Australia. Teams from 56 countries proudly wore their national soccer uniforms. For the time, eight female teams also competed for the Homeless Women's World Cup. Afghanistan won the men's title, giving Russia a 5-4 beating, while Zambia lifted the Homeless Women's World Cup trophy, defeating Liberia 7-1.

In 2009, the Homeless World Cup was held at Milan in Italy in the month of September. This time round, 500 players from 48 nations took the pitch in their national team uniforms. Ukraine delighted its fans by winning the tournament. A series of additional cups saw Chile as the proud winner of the Dignitary Cup and South Africa became the City Cup Winner.

With the countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup ticking, things are looking up for South African soccer. This is the first time in the history of street soccer that South Africa brought the Homeless World Cup trophy home. The South African team returned to a warm welcome at the Parliament, hosted by ID leader, Patricia de Lille. Vice Captain, Martin, believes the team's success on the pitch is important in revealing the team's worth to their homeland. According to him, "If people on the streets were given opportunities like this more often, no one would turn to drugs. I will never turn to drugs again." Martin, who lived on the streets for 22 years, turned his life around by joining the Homeless World Cup team. There's been no looking back for him ever since...

FIFA World Cup - France Team Profile

You would be forgiven for thinking the French players are showbiz celebrities rather than sportsmen. They are in the news for all the wrong reasons. The fact that they are in a relatively weak group A in the FIFA World Cup appears to have made them overconfident, and their lazy demeanour only serves to compound the showbiz impression.

During the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup, they were in the news for their inconsistent game. The icing on the cake came in the match against Ireland, where Thierry Henri did a 'hand of God'.

Their relief at eventually qualifying will scarcely suffice to erase the humiliating memory of going down 1-3 to Austria. France's solitary win from five semi-final entries at the World Cup is indicative of their underperforming on the big stage.

In the case of Theirry Henri, his undoubted skills and 51 strikes in a record of 117 caps for France, notwithstanding, the controversial goal against Ireland did nothing to enhance his reputation. The fact that he got away scot free only compounds the crime. Or, is this Henri's way of continuing the tradition of controversy that the previous captain, Zidane, established?

Regardless of the controversies surrounding their qualification, the team's coach did manage to get them to the final against Italy in 2006. Then also, the expectations from the team were very low.

And coach Domenech is confident that his team will give him a great parting gift by performing well. Domenech will be succeeded at the team's helm by Laurent Blanc.

Theirry Henry, whose hand of God kept Ireland out of the cup could play little part initially, owing to injury. The forward line is likely to be manned by Anelka in place of Henry, along with Andre-Pierre Gignac.
They should be ably supported by Franck Ribery in midfield, provided Ribery has recovered from injury.

As of now, it looks unlikely that Ribery will be in the staring eleven for the first match. Regardless, France should sleep walk past their rivals, Mexico, Uruguay and South Africa, in their group. Greece, their probable rivals in the round of 16, should not bother them unduly, either. Their first real challenge will be in the quarter-final, most likely England. If they can get past this hurdle, they will probably meet the winner of a Brazil-Netherlands encounter.

Controversies notwithstanding, France's manager Raymond Domenech can be credited with taking his team to the final in 2006.

If France are anywhere near as inconsistent in the World Cup, as they were in the qualifiers, England will be licking their chops.

Why You Need to Watch the 2010 World Cup

If you're looking forward to the 2010 World Cup then you'll be getting behind your team, planning World Cup parties and generally getting excited about this most prestigious of sporting events. Even if you're not a keen football fan, you're still likely to get swept along, and take at least a passing interest.

Here's why you need to watch the 2010 World Cup.

1. There will be lots to interest you even if you're not a football fan. As the tournament is in South Africa, there's bound to be lots of amazing scenery, wildlife and other events to see before the game.

2. If you are a football fan, but you're country didn't qualify, you'll be able to watch lots of exciting players to watch, and speculate as to which players will sign for new clubs. Who will your team sign?

3. Because the time difference isn't too great, you'll be able to watch lots of matches without having to stay up late or get up early. You shouldn't need to take much time off work so that you can watch your team. This makes a change from the 2002 World Cup that was held in South Korea and Japan, and had a huge time difference.

4. There are lots of teams to support if your country didn't qualify. Perhaps you'll choose a neighbouring country, or one of the favourites for the tournament. Maybe you'll choose to support a nation based on a player who plays for your team, or on their kit.

5. There's always a nation that are plucky underdogs and do better than expected. Perhaps you'll want them to do well, or maybe they're in your country's group and you won't want them to do well.

6. This year should see the best viewing quality yet. With bigger screens and better quality TVs and improved HD streams, you'll be able to watch the games with more clarity and in more detail than ever before.

7. By going to your local bar, instead of staying at home, you'll experience lots of camaraderie, and make new friends, and enjoy the football even more.

8. If you're well organised, you can spend more time with friends and family watching the game at your local bar. Perhaps you'll also take some holiday at this time, and make the most of the World Cup.

9. You'll want to get behind your nation and support them. Perhaps the World Cup draw for the knockout stages will bring up old rivalries, or perhaps there will be some contentious decision that.

10. This year's World Cup should be best sporting event ever, and will be watched by millions of people worldwide. Because the event is in South Africa, the whole continent will have an added interest in the World Cup this year, and will inspire many people, all over the world, to start playing football.

Now you know more about why you should watch the 2010 World Cup, why not get yourself organised and watch it with your friends in your local bar?

If you're looking for somewhere to watch the World Cup, your local Revolution bar is the ideal place. With big screens to watch the match on, excellent food and drink offers, and a fantastic atmosphere, you'll win at Revolution, even if your team doesn't. Why not book your own private World Cup Party today to avoid disappointment?

Retirement Dreams - Living it Up in South Africa

Many of us dream about our retirement long before it happens. South Africa offers a huge opportunity for early retirees in that it is heavily tourism slanted and bed and breakfasts are hugely popular.

Not only do South African bed and breakfasts offer superb and affordable accommodation, they also offer the eager retiree an opportunity that may not be found in any other country.

Prime times ahead

South Africa is a country with a myriad of tourism options and, despite the recent political set backs, is set to be one of the globes top destinations in 2010 due to the hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

Add this to the favourable exchange rates and the current low property prices and you have a winning combination for investment and early retirement.

The current situation

At the moment the average South African is bowed under the high interest rates and uncertainty about political party changes and many are being forced to shed excess property and pull in their horns. It is a buyers market.

With 2010 looming, accommodation establishments are certain of a good return both in terms of occupancy and, as interest rates begin to lower in 2009, in terms of property equity.

In short, if you are dreaming of a warm climate, a good income and a solid investment, now would be the time to buy a dream bed and breakfast in South Africa, particularly in the coastal regions.

Owning property in South Africa

Anyone can buy a property in South Africa. There are no restrictions on foreign nationals buying or investing in real estate there. Some buy property as holiday homes and are termed 'swallows' as they spend the Summer in South Africa avoiding their own Winter. Those in the know rent their holiday home out during South Africa's low season to supplement their return in the Summer.

Buying a bed and breakfast or guest house offers you a business visa which is one way of obtaining permanent residency. Not only do you fulfil the Home Affairs requirement of proving you are financially stable as it provides additional income to add to your requirement of a monthly income of at least R20 000 for life, but owning a good bed and breakfast also helps fulfil the creation of employment quota required.

Identifying your bed and breakfast

Often, searching the internet can save you a lot of time and headaches as many current owners will place their own advertisements to save commissions. It is a good idea to start there and garner information from the owner. Before that step determine where in South Africa would suit you. It is a very big country. The coastal regions appear to be the best for tourism related businesses although the attraction of wildlife still draws tourism inland.

The Western and Eastern Cape is extremely popular with the milder climate and wide variety of attractions from wildlife to nightlife. Towns such as Knysna, Oudtshoorn and Jeffrey's Bay all have their own charm.

Buying Processes

In South Africa a buyer submits an offer to purchase - sometimes lower than the asking price. Most bed and breakfasts are sold as residences and do not have business rights. The fixtures and fittings are offered as a separate inventory. This ensures a buyer is paying the correct price for the bricks and mortar offering and that it is not inflated by the addition of second hand furnishings.

Some will sell as a complete package but then one must be wary of the added value to the actual property when looking to resell ie: does it over inflate the real value?

Property is sold 'voetstoots' in South Africa ie: what you see is what you get. Once an offer is accepted by the seller there is no going back.

Transfer takes about 6 - 8 weeks and duty is applicable. It is advisable that each party retain their own attorney in the process.

Things to watch out for

Ask for a copy of signed and approved building plans upfront. Many South African homes have omitted additions that could cost you a small fortune down the line. Even a swimming pool requires approved plans.

A genuine bed and breakfast will have a full set of accounts for the past trading year as well as a bookings book. Read it before you offer!

Rates in South Africa have recently been reviewed and increases have been applied so ask the owner what their new rates are on the property.

Water is scarce in South Africa so a borehole would be a bonus for a guest house as would any solar conversions eg: solar geysers

Have a good look at their online advertising. When did they last upgrade their website and other advertising material? Where are they ranked?

Interview the domestic staff. They often know far more than they should.

Choose a unique location. Position is prime so spend that little bit extra to ensure you get drive past business. An island, views, proximity to game, golf or beaches are a must.

In Summary

South Africa is a perfect country to invest in right now, especially for the fifty plus market. The prices are right and the country is experiencing growth again. In terms of life style a bed and breakfast in South Africa is hard to beat.

Predicting the World Cup 2010 Winner

What does predicting the economy got to do with predicting the World Cup winner? A lot if you listen to Swiss Bank UBS.

In the World Cup 2006, the economists and analysts at the Wealth Management Research at UBS used the statistical model that enabled them to predict market trends and investment decisions and applied it to predict the World Cup winner.

They correctly predicted that Italy would be the champion. They also succeeded in getting six of the eight quarter-finalists correct. Their track record also included correctly forecasting three of the four semi-finalists.

UBS's model is a purely quantitative analysis and the criteria used are past performance, home advantage and teams' strength. Now let's discuss the model:

For past performance, so far seven nations have won the championship. (Brazil five times, Italy four times, Germany three times, Argentina and Uruguay two times, France and England one time each). So according to UBS, if you pick one of these seven teams, it appears to be a safe bet.

As for the home advantage, a third of the past world cups was won by the host country. Now:

# The weather is mild winter in South Africa and it appears that the host nation may not have the climate advantage. This applies similarly to the African nations in the finals.

# Some matches will be played at venues at high altitude. This is a clear advantage to the host and the South American teams like Brazil.

# In every tournament, there is speculation of referees favoring the Home team. Will there be many controversial calls helping the host?

# This being Africa's World Cup, there are many who wonder if an African nation will advance past the group stage into the quarter-finals for the first time. In every tournament, there will always be a team which will be the surprise package. Will this team come from Africa?

# And lastly, there is this "outside-of-Europe" syndrome. So far every World Cup had been won by either an European team or a South American side. No European team has won outside the comfort of their own continent. Now in South Africa, many pundits believe that the South American teams will have so-called ground advantage.

Regarding the strength of the teams, UBS took into consideration the FIFA ranking and the bookmakers' odds.

So which team has UBS picked to be WC 2010 champion? Brazil.

Well, your guess is as good as mine on which team will win. My trusted crystal ball tells me it is Spain.

In every World Cup, betting wise, it is a true challenge. The tournament is held every four years and qualification ends months before the ball is kicked in the first game of the finals. During this time, a lot can change in the football world.

World Cup means patriotic fervor comes into play. We all have passionate feelings for a certain team or a certain player which will determine our decision.

There are 32 teams in the finals so technically there are 32 potential winners. It is interesting to note some characteristics of these teams:

* Some teams have a good striking department with tons of firepower, but lacking everywhere else.

* Some teams have great talented players but have insane coaches.

* Some are perceived as perennial underachievers like Spain and England who seem to choke on the big stage.

* Some are tournament teams like Germany and Italy who may be underrated before the finals, but know how to grind out the results. Well this is according to past performances.

* Experts have expected Spain to win the last two World Cups - but they never have.

* England are going to win it every time according to the English - but they never do.

And there are some interesting statistics:

# No team has successfully defended the WC for a long while. Would the 2006 winner Italy be the exception? But Italy has an aging squad and may not be expected to last all the way. It is easier to reach the top, but much harder to stay there!

# Only once in the last 21 group games has the WC host lost, so would South Africa be the surprise package?

Why Spain will Win

With one loss in their last 46 matches, Spain arrived at South Africa as one of the best teams. They are the favorites to lift the World Cup on July 11. They are ahead of Brazil in the eyes of the bookmakers and pundits.

Spain (Rank 1) play in Group H against Chile (Rank 17), Switzerland (Rank 18) and Honduras (Rank 38).

They have been dubbed by the media in the past as "perennial underachiever". But the faith of their fans may be justified this time as they have completely turned the corner after winning Euro 2008. They had built on this success and thereafter had won all of their qualifying games for WC 2010, the first team to achieve such a record.

The Talents

Spain is a team with polished gems. They boast the talents of Fernando Torres and David Villa up front, Xavi and Andres Iniesta, Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas in the middle, Carles Puyol and Gerrard Pique at the back, and Iker Casillas in goal. The reigning European champion look a formidable bunch.

They are stacked with players from the elite leagues in Europe like Barcelona and Real Madrid. The squad has so much depth that even the impressive Arsenal captain Fabregas, whom many consider as one of the best midfielders around, has to warm the bench as a substitute.

A well balanced team is needed to have the consistency to get through such a high level tournament. Look at Argentina. The hope of the entire nation rests on the shoulders of young Messi. But Messi does not perform for his country like he does for Barcelona because he does not have the midfield marshals like Xavi and Iniesta behind him to pull the strings. And I shall leave the Argentina manager alone.

The Spanish squad has been largely unchanged from the team that won Euro 2008. Playing together for years can only foster better understanding on the pitch. The Spain of today exude calm and confidence. Wearing the European crown does such things to you.

Injury

Of course injury is a concern but this is the same for every team. Torres and Fabregas missed playing the tail end of the league due to injuries. To look on the bright side, this could actually be a blessing in disguise as they are totally rested for the World Cup.

Spain has a deep squad with comparatively able replacements. They are not a one or two men team like Ivory Coast relying on Drogba.

If injuries are inflicted on play-makers, any team will suffer like Rooney for England, Lucio and Kaka for Brazil, Messi for Argentina, Sneijder for Holland, etc. Serious injuries are a disaster for every team.

Pressure

Being ranked No. 1 and as hot favorites, expectations are high. Will Spain crack under the pressure?

Much was made out of their 2-0 defeat in the Confederations Cup semi-final to USA last June. This ended their 35 match streak without a loss. Some said Spain buckled under the pressure in that match because they wanted so much to break Brazil's 35 match streak of not suffering a loss. To many this is considered a great weakness to cave in to pressure.

A lot of teams lose matches that they should win. Most important is to learn a lesson from the loss. I believe the Spanish had indeed learned a valuable lesson. From then on, they had not lost again.

Mental Strength

Psychologists often stress that half of the battle is won in the head. Unfortunately, Spain have the unwanted tag of perennial choker on the big stage. In the past when the going gets tough, they have gone missing.

But now all the players pledged that they know their biggest enemy is themselves and they have developed greater self belief.

Complacency

There is a great threat of complacency when facing the likes of Honduras, Chile and Switzerland. I am confident that with an experienced coach in del Bosque, the players will know in no uncertain terms that a place in the second round is not a formality.

Assurance and over-confidence is divided by a very fine line. The last thing they will think is they have already won the match even before the ball is kicked.

How To Beat Spain

Some said the way to beat Spain is to follow the tactics of Jose Mourinho whose Inter Milan succeeded where virtually everybody failed by knocking Barcelona out of the Champions League. The tactic is to have the players defend deep in their own half, soaking up the pressure thrown at them and rely on swift counter-attack to score. Well, I am not sure whether there could be another "Special One' around.

Conclusion

If Spain keep their heads they will win World Cup 2010. If they don't, they are simply beaten by themselves.

The World Cup Final and the Teams Playing

As anybody who plays, watches, or is in any way involved with the sport of soccer knows, the World Cup final takes place very soon. Fans from all over the world will be watching as the two teams in the final, Spain and the Netherlands, battle it out to see who will be the world champion for the next four years. The fans at the game will of course, be very excited and along with this tournament's trademark vuvuzela horn sound will come the clicking of thousands of pictures, some with LED screens. The LED screens on many cameras these days is in fact the same technology used with LED picture lights and picture lighting, and is therefore a well known and proven technology. In the following paragraphs the two teams will be discussed and what some factors could be that would win or lose either country the final game.

This game is interesting for people in part because of the fact that neither Spain nor the Netherlands have ever actually won the World Cup. However, the Netherlands have experience being there, having made the final game in both 1974 and 1978 but losing to Germany (West Germany at the time) and Brazil respectively. The Dutch team has been in impressive form so far this tournament, but in the eyes of some have relied a bit too much on luck to get to the final. For example, they had to have Brazil score an own goal to beat them in the quarterfinals, and even then squeaked by. But with the incredible attacking talent on the Dutch side like Robin Van Persie and Arjen Robben they could certainly have enough fire power to win the game and glory for their country.

Spain, despite being a nation that has one of the best club team leagues in the world featuring some of the best players, have never even really come close to winning a World Cup. However, Spain has finally developed a national style of play which includes patient passing, leaving opposition with little chance to score through the entire game. In their semi final against Germany Spain showed their patience and tactical guile by out possessing the Germans fifty seven to forty three percent. With striker and tournament top goal scorer David Villa on their side the Spanish always have a chance to put a ball in the back of the net and win any game.

When it comes down to it this final match should be a great game, with both teams possessing the offensive fireworks to make for an exciting game for neutrals. However, with Spain's style of play being so hard to compete with, and with questions over the defending ability of the Dutch, the Spaniards really should go back to Madrid with their first ever World Cup title.

Undoubtedly the World Cup will have an incredible effect on the country that wins it. With the global economy doing so poorly it would come as a big boost to the morale and economy of either one of these two fine European countries if their team comes home with a big, solid gold trophy.

English Premier League - Liverpool Maintains Its Lead by Beating Blackburn

The 18-time champion of the Premier League, Liverpool, vindicated its leading position on the table this past Saturday by beating Blackburn Rovers 3-1 on the road in an amazing way. The game was well-played by the two teams but the consistency and determination of the Reds were higher than the Rovers in the second half, when they had trouble on their defense in various occasions.

The Reds for their part, played with conviction and its tactical plan was one that gave positive results to Benitez and his players at the end of the game. The Reds did not score any goals in the past two Premier League matches that finished in draws against Fulham and West Ham, but their effort in this game to find their winning strategies, gave them what they deserved, the victory.

This lost was the 5th consecutive for Blackburn in the Premier League, which remains in the relegation zone with only 13 points. Its coach Paul Ince is trying to find the way to win but some injuries on his key players and the clueless tactical plans in the matches have not helped to get a triumph, even when his players are playing hard.

On the other hand, Liverpool is working hard to maintain their pole position at the table and add more points to achieve their big ambition; winning their 19th title of the Premier League. However, we have to mention that Liverpool has also had struggles and difficulties, but even so they have managed to remain at the top.

In Saturday's game, Blackburn started with more chances than Liverpool during the first 10 minutes of the match, but they couldn't convert due to the fact that "Pepe" Reina was amazingly saving all of the Blackburn's attempts. Even so, the Reds didn't have any clear-cut opportunities during the first 45 minutes and the team's frustration started to show.

Nevertheless, in the second half things turned around for the Reds, who entered more aggressive and with more conviction than ever. Gerrard and Xavi were doing a great job in the midfield to create spaces and convert opportunities of goals. So at minute 68, Xavi Alonso opened the score with a great goal by an assist from Gerrard. Only 11 minutes later, Benayoun scored again for Liverpool placing a 2-0 in the scoreboard. Then at minute 86, Roque Santa Cruz scored the only goal of the match for Blackburn. Finally, to close the game at minute 90, Gerrard wrapped up the victory by scoring the final goal for Liverpool, finishing 3-1. This victory gives Liverpool a total of 37 points in the table, just one point ahead of Chelsea.

Moreover, Benitez was delighted with his team performance, as even when things were not completely on their side; his team took every chance to win. "We know we can play a lot better than we have been but what gives me confidence is that we can come to places like this and get results, even when we are not at our best," expressed the Spaniard Coach. "Clearly it was an important three points for us. We are in a very good position and we want to stay there."

Benitez also stated that players like Mascherano and Gerrard will improve with the time and that key players like Torres and Skrtel will be back to the field soon. That could help to balance the team and given them more support in the attack. The next match of Liverpool will be against Hull City on December 13th at home.

FIFA World Cup song 2010

the 30th of May, 2008 I mainly formed this group in honor of my beloved uncle Biplob. He lived in Johannesburg, South Africa. He really wanted me to be there with him. I was even mentally prepared for this, that after my 12th grade exam I'll move to South Africa from Bangladesh. My exams ended on the 29th of May,2008 and the very next day I received his death news that he passed away in a car accident. He wished that I studied at the University of Johannesburg and watch the FIFA'10 World Cup there. the 10th of April, 2010 But today, all these words are only memories. The closer the world cup is coming, the more I'm missing him and his words are still echoing in my ears. Right now I miss him the most, and that's the reason I form this group. Besides my beloved nephew Md Nashid Siddique( Oni) passed away the same way at Perth,Australia. If he also was here with me now, he would have been as excited as I am now! So keeping them in mind we will enjoy and enjoy our sheer excitement and joy of FIFA world '10 and discuss over this group. Hopefully we'll arrange a big screen live match for all our members and we can watch together. So that we can enjoy this WoRLd Cup to the Fullest. I urge to you all to participate and enjoy in this group and make this World Cup an event to Never Forget.

2006 FIFA World Cup Final in Germany

One of the most wonderful and exciting event of the last year naturally was the FIFA WM 2006. Millions of people from all over the world came to Germany. I went to visit my relatives in Cologne that summer. The streets were full of football moonstruck and not only men, but women too. It seemed that this event opened the hearts of all Germans. In addition as you know the official slogan of the 2006 FIFA Word Cup was: "A time to make friends". After the championship Germans were lauded for their hospitability. During the World Cup they gained new friends world-wide. I have many examples to prove it. I watched many different situations when people who didn't know each other became the best friends during and after the tournament. Our neighbor invited people who came to watch the WM into his house without any payment for their stay. He didn't know those people at all. They lived in tents in his garden and some of them lived in his house too. He fed them and drove to the matches. At night they made great noise and for some of us it was too loud. Although neither the host of the house nor the neighbors did say anything. That man spent with his guests the whole summer.

The streets in the city are always crowded but during the FIFA they seemed to be overcrowded. There is one thing I liked the best. There were some artists in the streets. Those artists painted their bodies in gold, silver, white or black, some of them were painted in colors of the flags of those countries that took part in the tournament. Those artists stood on the streets the whole day motionless. But when you came by and put some money in their hats or boxes in front of them they changed their positions, they moved. Only one movement and then static position again. They even didn't blink or yawn. Not a single movement! It was very amusing to watch them. It seemed so easy to stay motionless. Moreover, I want to add that I tried to do it myself, but it was so difficult. That is why I can say that I admired those brave artists who made their job so exciting and excellent.

There were a lot of flags during the championship. The flags of Germany were everywhere, but there were also and flags of other countries. So, flags were on the top of every house, on the bridges, on the cars, on the T-shirts. People even painted their faces in red, yellow, and black. They said that yellow was for their football team that was like a gold; red was for their blood that was up in their veins; black was for their land they lived in and for the land they were so proud of.

The Germans were really crazy because of that championship. Berlin was definitely the main city those days and the Olimpiastadion was the venue for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final. It was the big centre of that world performance. There were big viewing areas called Fan Fests in every city on the central squares. People could watch the World Cup matches in public. If I say that millions of people were there every day I definitely won't lie.

It doesn't matter what country are you from. Everybody liked that time, that summer. It was summer of joy, happiness, friendship and fun.

Germans wrote many songs dedicated to World Cup, but the most popular was, certainly, "Generation" that became the anthem of the championship.

Germans thought that they'll win the World Cup, but they failed to win it. I was very sorry for that. I imagine how great will be general excitement in case of their victory. Although the championship brought a great success for Germany in general. And I didn't regret about anything. I was very glad that I had the opportunity to watch the FIFA World Cup Final and to take part in that exciting passion for football. It was great and I had a lot of fun.
