In countries where soccer game is so popular, you can't deny that one big reason is because of the famous soccer players they have that made it to stardom. FIFA World Cup Warm Up: Japan's Own Goals Boost England

England were lucky to win their final warm-up game against Japan before boarding their flight to South Africa for the World Cup. Six minutes into the game, Japan converted Yasuhito Endo's corner kick, past goalie David James, to go one up. But England were saved embarrassment, and prevailed 2-1, thanks to own goals by Tanaka and Nakazawa.

Not a single England player managed to score; also, the squad were very mediocre over long durations of the match. Despite that, England will take any win that comes their way ahead of the big tournament that is scheduled to begin on June 11 at the Soccer City Stadium in Joahnnesburg. It's all about confidence and every adds to the mental preparedness of players and team alike.

Manager Fabio Capello used as many as 17 players in the game against Japan. Having seen such a large contingent in action should help England's Italian coach to decide on who should make the starting eleven in the big matches to come, and who shouldn't.

Joe Cole and Hart were definitely among the players who had a good day against the Japanese; Huddlestone definitely wasn't. Gerrard was seen limping at the end of the game, while some players have yet to see action, chief among them A Johnson, Warnock, Dawson and Parker.

Japan are ranked a lowly 45th in the world by FIFA and the quality of the game played by the England players on the day does not augur well. Among the teams competing in South Africa, there are only four other teams that are ranked lower than Japan.

Capello was averse to being too harsh in his judgement of England's effort. He restricted himself to saying that the first half was a bit slow, but that he was happy with the second half game of his men.

The Italian said that the game had given him a better perspective of the 23 men shortlisted for the World Cup but did not reveal any further details.

In another warm up, Derby midfielder Paul Green in his debut match for the Republic of Ireland scored the first of three goals in his team's win over up World Cup bound-Algeria. The other two goals came from Robbie Keane.

In yet another game, Nigeria drew Colombia 1-1, and disappointed coach Lars Lagerback who had expressed the hope of a better result after his team's goalless draw against Saudi Arabia. Nigeria are yet to win under their new coach, who is expected to announce the final squad for the World Cup, soon.

Germany will mark Saudi Arabia's fourth successive appearance at the World Cup but they are still trying to emulate the success achieved in the 1994 finals. Their debut in the USA was extraordinary, beating Morocco 2-1 and then Belgium 1-0 to cement a place in the second round. Striker Saeed Owairan also scored that memorable solo goal against the Belgians.

Since then, Saudi Arabia have barely made their mark in the finals, for positive reasons, anyway. The 2002 finals saw them on the receiving end of an 8-0 drubbing against Germany in which Miroslav Klose scored five goals while they also finished bottom of their group in 1998. Since losing to Sweden in the last 16 in the 1994 finals, they have endured five defeats and one draw in six matches.

Perhaps the Saudi Arabian royal family had a point after all as football was banned in the kingdom until as recently as 1951.

Former Argentina international Gabriel Calderon will be keen to make amends after replacing Gerard van der Lem following the Saudi's poor showing at the 2004 Asian Cup. Saudi Arabia qualified unbeaten in 12 matches, including home and away victories over South Korea.

The side conceded just two goals in 12 matches, helped by highly rated goalkeeper Mabrouk Zaid who is regarded the best in Asia. He is a worthy replacement to Mohamed Al Deayea who recorded a World record 173 caps for his country and is keen on a move to Europe. He won't have a better shop window than in Germany.

The World Cup will be one final hurrah for veteran playmaker Sami Al Jaber. This will be his fourth tournament and he has represented his country for half of his 33 years. After netting on his debut in 1990, he became the first Asian player to score goals in two consecutive World Cups - scoring the winning goal against Morocco in 1994 to mark Saudi Arabia's first ever finals win and in the 2-2 draw against South Africa in 1998. Al Jaber, came out of retirement to assist with qualification and scored twice in the 3-0 win against Uzbekistan.

What is likely to prevent Saudi Arabia from qualifying from Group H is an overall lack of experience against top class opposition. Only Al Jaber in his short spell at Wolves during the 2000/01 season and Fahd Al Ghashayan during a spell at AZ Alkmaar have experience of European club football in the country's history.

Recommended Bet

The tournament will be a grand occasion to loyal servant Sami Al Jaber but it is likely to be an early exit for Saudi Arabia yet again. The most profitable bet could be for them to lose all three matches and finish bottom of the group. Big hitters will not be put off by the odds-on prices for both Spain and Ukraine.

The World Cup - A Truly Global Sporting Event

It is getting to be June 2010, and for many sports fans around the globe that can only mean one thing, that it is time for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. By various different measurements, the World Cup is by far the biggest sporting event in the world, not even rivaled by the second placed Olympic Games. More people watch soccer around the world than any other sport, which of course contributes to the sense of hysteria that is gripping most of the world as the day of the opening match in the tournament draws closer and closer. There are many interesting firsts in this year's tournament, and also a few clear favorites in terms of who people think will win the whole thing and go home as glorious champions. Right now, preparations are taking place amongst all the teams to get in shape and stay fit for the tournament, and many of them have to utilize used exercise equipment, a used treadmill, or other used fitness equipment.

The first previously referred to for this newest installment of the World Cup deals with the location. This summer is the first time that the event will be held on the continent of Africa, although of course it will actually be winter in South Africa at the time of the tournament since the seasons are switched around from those of us living in the Northern hemisphere. Probably the first and second favorites in most experts' minds are two squads from the very Western portion of Europe. Until two years ago when they won the European Championship, Spain were known as a team of underachievers who would never win anything big. Since then, however, people are suddenly saying that Spain has the mentality finally to win things and make one last run with a great group of players. Also labeled as perennial underachievers, and yet to shed that tag, is England. England has one of the best strikers in the world in Wayne Rooney of Manchester United and will be looking to take home their first trophy since they hosted and won the World Cup in 1966.

Everyone across the world, even in typically soccer-phobic America, can get in to the passion and excitement of the World Cup and this year will be no different and promises to be one of the best yet.

World Cup 2010 - Love it Or Hate, Things Girls Need to Know to Keep Their Man Interested

World cup 2010 is finally upon us and soon the whole country will be going football crazy as the hopes and dreams of every England supporter will be in the balance. Every world cup the supporters follow their team through the thick and thin of it all but will this year finally be the repeat of 1966 for the England boys?

I know that every girl out there will be dreading the the 27 days of constant football games as they will all become football widows but every man out there is counting down the days till that first game on the 11th June and i would suspect that most have booked the time off work or making sure their employer has a tv set all ready to go. So with Capello in the driving seat who will be steering the team forward, John Terry we would believe will be our captain and is he the man for the job, I certainly think so you only have to look at his track record and his determination as a player to see his commitment to the team and his country.

So how can we prepare for the big date on the football calendar, well for starters lets get well and truely behind the boys and show our ongoing support to them, I for one will be getting all the world cup merchandise! I can and ensuring everyone out there knows I am behind the team 100% even if 50% of the commitment is to be having fun in the pub with the lads.

Top Ten Rankings For European Football Teams in the Euro 2012 Tournament

This is our unofficial list of the top 10 Ranked teams for the Euro 2012 Tournament.

10: Russia

Russia eliminated England from the 2008 Euro tournament. They have a solid group of skilled players and they should be competitive. Andrey Arshavin has played well for Arsenal as of late, he will be a player to keep an eye on. 

9: Czech Rep.

The Czech Team can be competitive if they get good play from Chelsea goalkeeper Peter Cech. Another notable player for the Czech team is former Liverpool striker Milan Baros. 

8: Greece

Greece does not have the most skilled team with big name players, but they did win the tournament in 2004. Probably the only reason they get to sneak into this top ten list. Who knows, maybe they can find the form that they had back in 2004. 

7: France

France is no longer one of the top 5 teams in Europe. They no longer boast skilled players like Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane. The players they do have do not seem to play well together, and they looked awful in South Africa. We do not expect France to have a good tournament. 

6: Italy

The World Cup Champions in 2006. The Italians do not have the skill and quality of the other top teams in Europe. However as always, they will rely on dirty and underhanded tactics to remain competitive. 

5: Portugal

Portugal might not have the depth in talent that some of the other European teams, but they might just have the best player in the world. If Cristiano Ronaldo is playing at the top of his game, Portugal will be a team to reckon with. 

4: Germany

The Germans do not have the hype that some of the other teams, but they always play well when the games mean the most. Germany has some skill including midfielder Memut Ozil who played well in South Africa. We expect the Germans to seriously contend in this tournament. 

3: Holland

The Dutch are coming off an excellent performance in the World Cup in South Africa finishing 2nd. The Dutch are always among the top teams when it comes to depth in talent and skill. They do have a reputation for under achieving when the stakes are high. This team could easily win this tournament. 

2: England

I know a lot of people will think we are crazy for ranking England in the top 5. England had a very poor World Cup and they have not played well in any international competition since 2004, when they had a slight showing of brilliance in the Euro tournament until losing to Portugal. England still boasts some of the most skilled players in the tournament such as Steve Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Jermain Defoe etc. They have looked good in European qualifying matches after the World Cup. 

1: Spain

The World Cup Champions, Defending European Champions, there is no reason to think they are not the number 1 ranked team in Europe. Spain will be a difficult team to beat, with players like David Villa and Fernando Torres both looking very dangerous. Spain is the Team to beat in this tournament.

World Cup 2010 Soccer - World Cup, Who Will Win?

The 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa promises to be one of the best in soccer history with fantastic teams such as Spain and Brazil favourites to win the coveted trophy.

Let's look at some of the contenders and the pitfalls they face if they want to reach the final.

Spain have a wonderful team and should cruise through their group but will face a very tricky second round match as they will face Brazil, Ivory Coast or neighbours Portugal. If Spin progress in round two I expect them to reach the final.

Brazil are always one of the favourites but they need to get off to a good start as they are in the group of death with some good teams.

England have some players like Gerrad, Lampard and Ferdinand competing in probably their final big tournament so I expect them to cruise past their group but might face the Germans in the second round and possibly Brazil in the semi finals so it's a tall order to see them winning the world cup. The fitness of Wayne Rooney is sure to be key.

France were awful in the qualifiers and players such as Henry are past their best so I don't expect them to go far, especially with their eccentric manager who is not rated even by the French public!

Italy and Holland have decent teams but it's unlikely either will feature past the semi final stage.

Argentina have the worlds best player in Lionel Messi but will Maradona get the best out of him in his defensive formation? A dodgy qualifying campaign suggests they will not win the world cup?

And outsiders Portugal have a gem in Ronaldo but rarely do one man teams win the trophy?

ICC T-20 World Cup 2010

ICC T-20 World Cup Series has offered a new delight to the cricket fans all over the world. After the successful ICC T-20 world cup tournament of 2007, everybody was anxiously waiting for 2009 T-20 series. However, the tournament of 2009 held in England did not yield substantial output. After the unsatisfactory performance of ICC T-20 world cup 2009, all the hopes are now hooked up in the forthcoming third series.

People have already booked tickets from the travel agents for experiencing the grand live performance. The schedule for ICC T-20 is even more interesting than IPL T-20 tournament with the entry of many new teams.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in West Indies from 30th April to May 16th this year. Being the third tournament, this series holds even more excitement and hopes amongst all cricket lovers. As before, the tournament will include 12 teams, the chief test playing nations and 2 associate teams.

The name of teams in t-20 world cup are Australia, India, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, England, West Indies and Ireland. Matches will be played on the following five grounds, Barbados, St. Lucia, Guyana, St. Kittis and Nevis.

The tournament will proceed in three stages, Group Stage, Super Eight Stage and Knock Out Stage. In the group stage, there will be a clash between the corresponding teams of groups. The best two teams of each group will qualify for Super Eight Stage. In this segment, the selected eight teams will be further segregated into two different groups. Each team is supposed to play three matches in this stage. As a result, the best four teams will qualify for the knock out stage. After the third stage, there will be Semi Finals and Final.

The ICC T-20 world cup schedule outlines the respective matches to be played by different teams. All the 12 teams have been divided in four groups namely A, B, C and D. Overall, there will be 27 matches. The qualifying nations are Afghanistan and Ireland, which will also take part in the series. The core groups include

Group A -Australia, Pakistan Bangladesh
Group B -New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe
Group C -India, South Africa and Afghanistan
Group D -England, West Indies and Ireland

This is the typical outline of every ICC T-20 World Cup tournament. The success rate amidst such strong contenders is unknown as of now. However, each team is ready to establish its hold. This is quite evident by the selection of players in each team. we can name top players like Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Yousuf Pathan, and Virender Sehwag, who are all set to make it big again.

After cruising through the group matches with easy wins over Nigeria, South Korea and Greece, Argentina ran into Mexico in the round of 16. Contrary to expectation, Mexico disappointed, and barring the first 10 minutes or so, Argentina ruled, with Tevez's twin strikes deciding the issue. Higuain also got his name on the scorecard thanks to a blunder by Osario.

Messi has been the creative hub, despite not scoring himself, and Tevez and Higuain have benefited. the midfield has been in capanble hands, led by Javier Mascherano, and Angel di Maria and Maxi Rodriguez have supplemented the attack whenever possible.

The back-line led by Martin Demichelis is the only weak area, with a goal gifted to the South Koreans a case in point. Concentration lapses have also occurred too often for comfort, such as towards the end of the Mexico game.

German youth overwhelmed English experience, 4-1, in their round of 16 match, the worst defeat england have suffered in any World Cup finals.

This was a repeat of their group match against Australia, but that was followed by a shock defeat to Serbia. But Germany soon erased the memory with a 1-0 win over Ghana in their last group game to top the group.

Germany have looked complete in every aspect: Per Mertesacker and Arne Friedrich in the back line, Sami Khedira filling in for Michael Ballack, Bastian Schweinsteiger champion in the midfield, Mesut Oezil the brightest spark of the tournament for Germany, Klose a man for big occasions, the list looks non-ending.In fact, Germany's biggest enemy against Argentina could be overconfidence.

Lionel Messi is undoubtedly the key for Argentina. Without his selfless team spirit, apart from his supreme ball skills, Tevez and Higuain wouldn't have been half as effective.

Mesut Oezil was unknown before the World Cup. Here is the star of the future; mature beyond his years, he uses his prodigious talent to devastating effect.

Maradona is unlikely to tinker with his starting eleven. He will rely on Demichelis and Burdisso to counter Klose.

Germany Manager Joachim Leow could also opt for an unchanged side from the one that played against England. Klose, at their spearhead, rely on support from Oezil, Mueller and Podolski. The defence will be led by Lahm who is an additional attacking option, and the back-line will have Freidrich and Mertesacker.

This is a game of classic contrast in that Argentina have individual stars who can rule a game on their day, and Germany have youngsters with talent and energy but lack experience, at these rarefied heights. This lack showed up for the 15 minutes leading up to half-time against Lampard and company in the Ehgland game. For me, the result of this match will revolve around the question: can Germany's inexperience can weather the Messi storm?

There are so many different soccer coaching licenses that you can get to enhance your chances of getting a great job. In this article, I'll tell you which are the best.

Probably you are a big fan of soccer (or football as it is known in most of the world) already. But it's not enough to just be a fan of the beautiful game, you need to prove your worth in other ways. Luckily there are some industry recognised soccer coaching certificates that you can add to your armory.

There are really only two tracks that you need to choose from. One is the U.S. track and the other is the European track. Both are recognised worldwide but I would say that the European badges just edge it so, even if you live in the US, you might want to choose to do the European ones.

The U.S. badges are given out by the United States Soccer Federation. They are graded in different levels so you can start light and get the basics so that you can teach kids. Of course, to coach soccer, anyone can do it - but it is the soccer schools and then the clubs that demand the badges - this is why you need them.

Luckily the basic badges are easy to get. Then when you qualify for one, you can aim for the next one, all while still getting experience. Eventually you progress from the Youth license to the C, B and A which is the top level.

In Europe, the situation is slightly different. UEFA, the governing body of European football dish out the top tier of licenses - I'll come to them shortly. But national bodies will give you the lower level badges.

So in England, for instance, the Football Association will allow you to take the Level 1 and Level 2 soccer coaching qualifications. Especially the Level 1 is really easy and you need no experience to do it. Just having it on your resume is a great way of showing that you are serious about coaching as a career.

After that, UEFA allow you to take the "B" badge (also known as Level 3), the "A" badge and then the "Pro" badge. This last badge was recently made compulsory for all pro managers in Europe - yes, even the best have to take an exam! If you want to become the next Alex Ferguson then you should eventually aim to take this badge.

World Cup 2014 - Can Brazil Host It?

In 2003 FIFA pronounced the World Cup will be in South America, under its new rotation system (which begins in South Africa in 2010). The last time the World Cup was hosted in South America was in Argentina in 1978.

However, mistrust started unnerving in September 2006, with Brazil's president admitting the country did not have the stadiums to host the event.

Brazil was the only country on the continent which said it wanted to hold the event and why not? They have plenty of space, many live out of football and a possibility of many investors.

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said his country will need to build at least 12 FIFA approved new stadiums if it plans on hosting the 2014 World Cup. "We don't have any stadium which is in a condition to host World Cup games," Lula said during a speech. "We're going to have to build at least 12 new stadiums in this country."

Far be it from us to question a president, but surely a couple of Brazil's existing stadiums could be renovated sometime during the next six years. We also wonder how he came up with the number 12? While Germany had 12 stadiums in 2006, South Africa will have 10 venues in 2010.

The stadiums are only a part of the equation. Anyone who has lived through a World Cup can tell you that the investment in infrastructure to support the visitors is tremendous. They will plough money into infrastructure, accommodation, travel, tourism and facilities to cater for this.

Flights and accommodation will have to be increased dramatically, as well to supply for the influx of people that will be coming from all over the world!!! We are surely looking at a few hundred thousand alone each week? Also, this will draw in a lot of overseas investors and companies into Brazil, as well as real estate investors who ride on the backs of big worldwide events like this!!!

Now, we believe it is possible for this Billion dollar investment to take place, their economy has been
pretty steady the past years, but top official says Brazil is more than a year behind schedule in its construction projects for the 2014 football World Cup.

The president of SINAENCO, a Brazilian architectural and engineering association, says the government must improve its efforts or risk losing investment and the chance at hosting future events.

"Brazil is more than a year behind," Jose Roberto Bernasconi said recently at SINAENCO's annual meeting. "The authorities have to get involved." Bernasconi says the World Cup will "promote Brazil and attract more investment in the future." But all that is at risk if construction deadlines are not met.

Brazil hosted the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro last year without major glitches. Brazil is bidding for the 2016 Olympics, which also would take place in Rio, therefore they are looking forward in getting back full or even investment at long term. The 2010 FIFA World Cup Draw

The draw for the 32 teams participating in the FIFA World Cup 2010 finals discovered who they were playing when the final draw took place recently in Cape Town. The opening match will be on the 11th June with South Africa drawn to play Mexico but it was the group D that caused the biggest reaction.

Here, Germany, Australia, Serbia and Ghana will battle it for the two qualifying places in the round - effectively putting two nations with highly passionate support together will actually depart the tournament early.

The television audience for the draw exceeded over 200 million and there were 2,000 invited guests in the hall to watch the draw and it provided not just a football draw - but a colourful and exciting spectacle for all who saw it. Portugal football striker Eusebio, who was born in neighbouring Mozambique, was hailed as an example of the "Win in Africa, With Africa" campaign which was showcased before the crowd and Beninese singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo also performed her Grammy-nominated song "Agolo".

In keeping further with the African theme, Academy Award-winning actress, Hollywood producer and proud South African Charlize Theron, showed off the official 2010 match ball,, made by Adidas. The Jabulani ball means "to celebrate" in Zulu. The world famous and Grammy award winning Soweto Gospel Choir sang their "Pata Pata" just as the draw master and Fifa secretary-general Jerome Valcke performed the draw.

The multiple Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir continued the theme of happiness with a lively rendition of "Pata Pata" before the arrival of signaled the moment of truth.

For some of the teams coaches, there will be a feeling of heading away confident of the task ahead but for others, there will be concerns about the match produced by the draw. At least they all know who they are facing in the groups and can now begin their planning and preparation for their part in the show which is the FIFA World Cup 2010.

World Cup Soccer Results and Review

Italy was crowned world cup 2006 winners, Germany hosted the tournament superbly and played some great football on their way to the semi final. But was the standard of football great? I am not sure, the Italians were very strong in defence but are not a brilliant team as highlighted when they struggled to beat nine man USA and were fortunate to beat Australia with a last gasp penalty.

If we look at some of the 2006 world cup teams we can see many failed to deliver.

ITALY- Winners

Outstanding defence and in Buffon the best goalkeeper in the world as he highlighted with his great save from Zidane in extra time. More attacking formation than normal but no real strikeforce success with Toni failing to emulate his Serie A strike rate.

As with most good teams they managed to grind out some results and were very hard to beat. Many of their top players are now reaching their peak, interesting to see how they perform in Euro 2006.

FRANCE- Runners up

The veterans of France surprised many by reaching the final. Inspired by Zidane the French eliminated holders Brazil and also defeated Portugal in the semi final.

The French were unlucky in the final as for long periods they dominated the game, however the crazy sending off involving Zidane cost them dearly as with Zidane, Vierra and Henry all unavailable for the penalty shoot out, the French had to settle for runners up.

GERMANY- 3rd Place

The Germans went into the world cup as underdogs despite being the home nation due to a run of terrible results. The manager, Klinsmann was under intense pressure but the Germans performed superbly and only were denied a final spot when the Italians scored two late goals in extra time in the semi final.

The Germans provided the young player of the tournament and in Klosse they also grabbed the top goalscorer award.

PORTUGAL- 4th Place

Portugal have emerged as serious contenders in recent tournaments under the guidance of big Phil Scolari. Impressive wins over Holland and England were not matched when they performed poorly and were eliminated by France in the semi final.

Players such as Figo, Pauletta and Deco may have played their last world cup but they still have some young players such as Ronaldo emerging.

BRAZIL- Quarter final

The holders played some great football in the early stages despite Ronaldo not looking anywhere near fit. Ronaldinho showed some nice tricks but was quiet in many matches due to tight marking.

A very lacklusture showing against France sent the Brazilains home and for players such as Carlos, Ronaldo, emerson, Junior and Cafu it is probably the end of their world cup dreams.

ENGLAND- Quarter final

With so many quality players there is no doubt England under performed. They were terrible in the group stages struggling against big guns such as Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago!

Their manager failed to bring enough strikers and with Rooney clearly not fit and Owen out injured there was no real strength in depth to the squad. The long ball tactic was used too often and England yet again were beat on penalties at the quarter final stage.

ARGENTINA- Quarter final

The South Americans played some superb stuff in the early stages and had many outstanding players . However they were eliminated by the host nation on penalties as their early form failed to reappear in the latter stages of the tournament.

A narrow win against Mexico suggested they were not unbeatable and the Germans more than matched them in a dull quarter final. With young players emerging such as Messi there is no doubt that Argentina will be back challenging the next world cup.

Uruguay's South American Class Beats South Africa 3-0

Uruguay showing the class and touch that at one time made their football the greatest in the world defeated a South African team that in all truth was simply outclassed and outplayed by their South American rivals. It was a game which both teams needed to win given the fact that both were held to a draw in their first game and it was with this in mind that Uruguay came out ready to play. South Africa, for its part was not able to get their game going as Uruguay managed not only to stifle their efforts but to use their superior technical skills to keep the ball. This making it harder for South Africa to get a hold of the ball.

Diego Forlan, as one can expect was the one who got Uruguay on the scoreboard when his long distance shot took a slight deflection off a South African defender and made its way in to the back of the net. This goal coming 24 minutes in to the game to give Uruguay a well deserved 1-0 lead which is how the first half would end.

The second half would continue with more of Uruguay's elegant South American play which South Africa did not seem to have an answer for. It not taking Uruguay long to double their lead at 2-0 when Forlan converted a penalty for his second personal goal of the game. It was at this point of the game that Uruguay not only had a comfortable lead but was playing with an extra man as South Africa's goalkeeper was shown the red card for the foul he committed that gave away the penalty. South Africa then continued bravely yet it was clear that Uruguay with more experience and class would not let them back in a game which they would go on to win by 3-0. Their third goal coming in added time thanks to a well placed shot from close range by Pereria.

In conclusion, I would say that Uruguay has taken a big step toward the second round which should see them get through with a win or even a draw against their next rival; Mexico. South Africa on the other hand is now in danger of being eliminated from the world cup in the first round which would make them the first host nation not to qualify to the second round.

Denmark v Japan WC 2010, big screen in Brandts, Odense

I spent a few days on holiday in Odense, Denmark, in June 2010, during which time Denmark played Japan at the World Cup in South Africa. So, I decided to head along to the big screen in the Brandts area of town, with my camera. Not the result the Danes wanted, unfortunately. A few things: (1) I chose a terrible vantage point with lots of obstructions, but it was really busy (I think there had been a student event in the square earlier), and I ended up standing on a mound of really slippery rocks. (2) I admit I'm useless at holding a video camera, but I didn't think to take along a tripod. (3) I'm not very good at video editing either... Apart from that, enjoy. France vs Spain

Spain underlined their tag as World Cup favorites with a comfortable 2-0 victory of France in Paris. This was their 22nd win in 23 games since they won the European Championships and their first victory over the French in France since? Goals from Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos and Valencia's David Villa sealed the win. The tough French team turned against their own side with Thierry Henry booed and whistled at throughout following his controversial deliberate handball against the Republic of Ireland to seal qualification for the World Cup Finals. Coach Raymond Domenech wasn't spared either as once again he failed to spark a disjointed French team who were outplayed by the classy Spaniards throughout.
Germany vs Argentina

Argentina put their shaky World Cup qualifying campaign behind them with a strong performance against Germany in Munich, taking victory through a classy goal from Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain on the stroke of half-time. Argentina legend and coach Diego Maradona was in a confident mood after the match.

"This game had the character of a World Cup quarter-final and this is the level we were looking for," he said. "Maybe the press in Argentina won't like it, but we are going to play a very good World Cup in South Africa. What we showed is that we have a team who can become world champions for the first time after 24 years," Maradona said.

"But now I have got to reduce my squad from 30 players to 23. That is not going to be easy.

"We showed a lot of courage and the whole of Argentina was looking forward to this game. Germany has great potential and Argentina showed that they are on a par with them."

England Football fans have always had problems following their national team, not least being the ability to obtain tickets to major tournaments like the FIFA Football World Cup. With a regular hundred thousand travelling soccer fans and the global popularity of the English Premier League, tickets to all England's games in World Cup Final Tournaments are always grossly oversubscribed, with demand at the last 2006 games in Germany exceeding supply by a factor of 20 with over 20 million requests from around the world on the official FIFA website, for just 750,000 available tickets. The tournament in June 2010 in South Africa will be no different and the demand for tickets for England matches will be exaggerated by the large number of English ex-pats that live and work in the Republic.

So how do England fans get tickets to see their team in South Africa this summer? Fortunately for this World Cup there are various alternative methods and means of obtaining tickets, however most of these come at a premium.

If you wish to purchase England World Cup tickets at face value, then there are two official channels; FIFA the tournament organising body and the English Football Association, known as the FA.

The first port of call for fans should be the official world cup ticket website at FIFA.com. You need to register on the site and confirm your identity before being guided through the ticketing application process where you can submit your request for England tickets. You can apply for a maximum of four tickets, for all seven England matches, which assumes they will reach the finals. You will need to supply valid passport details and hold a credit card. You can apply for tickets in categories one, two or three, which once you have applied, your name will then be entered into a lottery and if successful, you will be informed by email at the end of each draw. The tickets will only be available for collection at FIFA offices in South Africa, from April 2010 onwards, to deter people from buying tickets, with no intentions of travelling. However, it is worth joining because the supporters club provide valuable assistance to members when travelling abroad and is often the source of last minute returned tickets.

The third way of getting to see England in South Africa is to purchase a tour package through an official FIFA backed tour operator. There are four official England Travel Agents partners for the 2010 World Cup; Keith Prowse, Thompson Sports Holidays, Thomas Cook, and BAC Sport. All offer a variety of travel and ticket packages, from single England match trips against USA, Algeria and Slovenia at around three to four thousand pounds per trip; to a four day trip to the World Cup Final starting from around six thousand five hundred pounds for the experience. However despite the tour operators insistence that they do not make a profit on England tickets, it is often much cheaper to buy the equivalent travel and accommodation services and World Cup Tickets yourself.

Another source of England World Cup tickets, often the very best seats in the Stadia, is from Corporate Hospitality. FIFA have announced that the full allocation of 308,000 seats has been reserved for corporate hospitality. However expect to pay a hefty premium for these services with hospitality starting from approximately double the price of tour packages for England games.

The final method of obtaining England World Cup tickets is to purchase online through a reseller, where tickets will be exchanged at four or five times face value. Due to the distribution methods employed by the organisers, a majority of England tickets will eventually find their way to these Internet resale sites, especially from football authorities around the world, individual touts or hospitality ticket sellers who have a surplus. You can guarantee that if you see two thirds of the stadium at an England World Cup game filled with England fans, that the majority would have obtained their tickets through an Internet reseller. eBay should be avoided as many scammers operate there, as should websites that operate in the UK where it is illegal to resale World Cup tickets that you do not possess. If you apply through these you run a serious risk of not receiving your tickets.

Chile in Soccer World Cup - South Africa 2010

The whole country in Chile was proud of its National Team. The warm reception Chile paid to its National Team when they returned to Santiago reflects the fans' satisfaction and pride for the work they performed in the World Cup.

Chile conquered two consecutive triumphs in their first appearances in South Africa and multiplied the fervour they had generated before leaving. The Chilean fan felt, perhaps as never before that this team would not disappoint him and it was exactly what happened. since, Marcelo Bielsa arrived, Chile recovered their pride, respect and dignity.

The FIFA World Cup is an international association football competition played between the men's national teams of the members of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the governing global body of the sport. Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 to become the first-ever World Cup champions.

The years to follow would be difficult in the growth and development of the World Cup. Travel was already a big concern, and World War II kept the tournament from happening at all in 1942 and 1946. Even after the war had ended, British teams withdrew from the World Cup, citing that they would not play against teams of nations with whom they were at war with years earlier.

In the years to come, Britain would put aside their grievances, means of travel became more convenient, and the World Cup began to grow exponentially. In 1982, the finals were expanded to include 24 teams, and then again to 32 in 1998. For the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup, 204 separate teams will attempt to qualify for the finals.
