FIFA World Cup Warm Up: Japan's Own Goals Boost England
England were lucky to win their final warm-up game against Japan before boarding their flight to South Africa for the World Cup. Six minutes into the game, Japan converted Yasuhito Endo's corner kick, past goalie David James, to go one up. But England were saved embarrassment, and prevailed 2-1, thanks to own goals by Tanaka and Nakazawa.
Not a single England player managed to score; also, the squad were very mediocre over long durations of the match. Despite that, England will take any win that comes their way ahead of the big tournament that is scheduled to begin on June 11 at the Soccer City Stadium in Joahnnesburg. It's all about confidence and every adds to the mental preparedness of players and team alike.
Manager Fabio Capello used as many as 17 players in the game against Japan. Having seen such a large contingent in action should help England's Italian coach to decide on who should make the starting eleven in the big matches to come, and who shouldn't.
Joe Cole and Hart were definitely among the players who had a good day against the Japanese; Huddlestone definitely wasn't. Gerrard was seen limping at the end of the game, while some players have yet to see action, chief among them A Johnson, Warnock, Dawson and Parker.
Japan are ranked a lowly 45th in the world by FIFA and the quality of the game played by the England players on the day does not augur well. Among the teams competing in South Africa, there are only four other teams that are ranked lower than Japan.
Capello was averse to being too harsh in his judgement of England's effort. He restricted himself to saying that the first half was a bit slow, but that he was happy with the second half game of his men.
The Italian said that the game had given him a better perspective of the 23 men shortlisted for the World Cup but did not reveal any further details.
In another warm up, Derby midfielder Paul Green in his debut match for the Republic of Ireland scored the first of three goals in his team's win over up World Cup bound-Algeria. The other two goals came from Robbie Keane.
In yet another game, Nigeria drew Colombia 1-1, and disappointed coach Lars Lagerback who had expressed the hope of a better result after his team's goalless draw against Saudi Arabia. Nigeria are yet to win under their new coach, who is expected to announce the final squad for the World Cup, soon.

How to Purchase England Tickets For the FIFA World Cup Finals in South Africa 2010
England Football fans have always had problems following their national team, not least being the ability to obtain tickets to major tournaments like the FIFA Football World Cup. With a regular hundred thousand travelling soccer fans and the global popularity of the English Premier League, tickets to all England's games in World Cup Final Tournaments are always grossly oversubscribed, with demand at the last 2006 games in Germany exceeding supply by a factor of 20 with over 20 million requests from around the world on the official FIFA website, for just 750,000 available tickets. The tournament in June 2010 in South Africa will be no different and the demand for tickets for England matches will be exaggerated by the large number of English ex-pats that live and work in the Republic.
So how do England fans get tickets to see their team in South Africa this summer? Fortunately for this World Cup there are various alternative methods and means of obtaining tickets, however most of these come at a premium.
If you wish to purchase England World Cup tickets at face value, then there are two official channels; FIFA the tournament organising body and the English Football Association, known as the FA.
The first port of call for fans should be the official world cup ticket website at FIFA.com. You need to register on the site and confirm your identity before being guided through the ticketing application process where you can submit your request for England tickets. You can apply for a maximum of four tickets, for all seven England matches, which assumes they will reach the finals. You will need to supply valid passport details and hold a credit card. You can apply for tickets in categories one, two or three, which once you have applied, your name will then be entered into a lottery and if successful, you will be informed by email at the end of each draw. The tickets will only be available for collection at FIFA offices in South Africa, from April 2010 onwards, to deter people from buying tickets, with no intentions of travelling. The last FIFA lottery sales phases begins on Feb 9 and this will be followed by a first come, first served basis sales in April.
The second method of obtaining England World Cup Tickets at face value is to apply through the English FA official England Football Supporters Club. You will need to register an England fan and pay the annual membership fee. The FA has a limited World Cup ticket allocation, has preferential ticketing arrangement for long term members and is usually way over-subscribed. However, it is worth joining because the supporters club provide valuable assistance to members when travelling abroad and is often the source of last minute returned tickets.
The third way of getting to see England in South Africa is to purchase a tour package through an official FIFA backed tour operator. There are four official England Travel Agents partners for the 2010 World Cup; Keith Prowse, Thompson Sports Holidays, Thomas Cook, and BAC Sport. All offer a variety of travel and ticket packages, from single England match trips against USA, Algeria and Slovenia at around three to four thousand pounds per trip; to a four day trip to the World Cup Final starting from around six thousand five hundred pounds for the experience. However despite the tour operators insistence that they do not make a profit on England tickets, it is often much cheaper to buy the equivalent travel and accommodation services and World Cup Tickets yourself.
Another source of England World Cup tickets, often the very best seats in the Stadia, is from Corporate Hospitality. FIFA have announced that the full allocation of 308,000 seats has been reserved for corporate hospitality. However expect to pay a hefty premium for these services with hospitality starting from approximately double the price of tour packages for England games.
The final method of obtaining England World Cup tickets is to purchase online through a reseller, where tickets will be exchanged at four or five times face value. Due to the distribution methods employed by the organisers, a majority of England tickets will eventually find their way to these Internet resale sites, especially from football authorities around the world, individual touts or hospitality ticket sellers who have a surplus. You can guarantee that if you see two thirds of the stadium at an England World Cup game filled with England fans, that the majority would have obtained their tickets through an Internet reseller. eBay should be avoided as many scammers operate there, as should websites that operate in the UK where it is illegal to resale World Cup tickets that you do not possess. If you apply through these you run a serious risk of not receiving your tickets.
The safest way to buy England Tickets online is to purchase them from an established reseller. Check out on the Internet how long the reseller has been in business and if they are experienced in selling Football World Cup Tickets [http://www.footballworldcuptickets.com]. Certain World Cup ticket companies such as the USA based Razorgator, operate offices at all the venues and source England tickets exclusively from FIFA official sources, guaranteeing delivery and authenticity.

FIFA World Cup 2010 - Team Profile England
Ranked 10th in the FIFA world rankings, England boast many star players. They are placed in a relatively easy group C, along with USA, Algeria and Slovenia. Though England are expected to be group leaders, they have consistently underperformed, whether at Euro 2004 and 2008, or World Cup 2006.
Arguably, England face greater pressure than other teams because of the British media that hold the players up to 24x7 scrutiny, and hype everything they do, to feed frenzied English fans who actually beg for more.
The players are thus converted into tabloid superstars, and their real or imagined talents are presented in an exaggerated way in newspapers and on television.
And it does not help that many of the England players earn king's ransoms playing in the Premier League.
At a certain point, the media start believing in their own hype. Consequently gullible fans who read these reports about their favourite players hold up the players to imaginary standards and are disillusioned when the stars don't fulfill their expectations.
Getting back to the matter at hand, like some of the other big teams, England have also appointed a new coach, Fabio Capello, in the hope of a better showing, this time around. Capello's presence did improve things, in the qualifiers, where England won all but one of their 10 matches, in style.
Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch were particularly impressive, in the forward line; Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard did likewise in midfield. On a negative note, some of their stars are injury prone. Ashley Cole is returning after nursing a broken ankle. Ledley King is a good defender who's also injury prone. Another casualty of injury is the celebrated Beckham whose future as a player has been jeopardized by a career threatening industry he suffered recently. Needless to say, Beckham will not play in this World Cup.
Rio Ferdinand has taken over as captain from the sacked John Terry, but has chosen to retain his predecessor as a player in the squad, a move that Beckham has praised.
England are expected to head their group, although they will not have forgotten their loss to USA, at the 1950 World Cup. They are likely to meet France in the quarter-final, and if they survive that match, Brazil in the semi-final.
A team that won in 1966, and whose fans numbering in millions pray for a repeat performance, England would do well to reach the semi-final.

England World Cup 2010 Qualification
I know the Euro 2008 finals tournament hasn't even started yet and unfortunately England will not be there as we failed along with all other home nations to qualify.
But at least we have the World Cup 2010 qualifiers to look forward too with the hope that
England can qualify from their group and go forward to South Africa. In recent years it has been a turgid affair following England. With the over hyped press before every major tournament and the equally vitriolic dissecting of the England football teams failings after being dumped out of the latest tournament. It's worth noting here in my opinion.
England is over rated with only Spain of the so called big teams regularly underachieving as often. Looking back England has only ever reached the final of one international Football tournament which makes us the worst performing of all the Countries that have won the world cup. In fact England's record in the Euros has been even worse their best finish being fourth in the 1996 Euros, hosted in England. Anyway enough of the England bashing I am after all English and would love to see England lift the World cup.
This is where I think not qualifying for Euro 2008 may have been a blessing in disguise as expectation is now at its lowest for many years and maybe nearer to realistic expectation levels. For me it is not the fact that England has won nothing in 42 years only a handful of countries have shared the major tournament trophies since then. I would like to see England enter the world cup qualifiers with a realistic press and void of all the nationalistic over hype we get through every tournament. The is after all some hope with Capello taking charge if nothing else he should be able to eradicate the prima Donna egos from which ever squad he chooses. And being at the twilight of his illustrious career appears to care little for courting the press. I still hold hope for the World Cup 2010. If nothing else perhaps we can entertain on our way to qualification.
